Davenport Hotel First in World to Use State of the Art Crisis Management System to be Demonstrated in Practice Event at Hotel on Monday October 31
SPOKANE, WA--Oct. 26, 2005 -- The Davenport Hotel is the first hotel in the world to be prepared for an emergency with a crisis management planning and response system called Rapid Responder. This system will be demonstrated in a practice event involving personnel from the Spokane Police Department and Spokane Fire Department at the hotel on Monday, October 31 at 10 a.m. Police Chief Roger Bragdon, Assistant Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer, and representatives from Prepared Response and The Davenport Hotel will be on site and available for comment.
"The Davenport Hotel has a long history of innovation in systems and technology since it opened 90 years ago," says General Manager Lynnelle Caudill. The Davenport Hotel was the first ever hotel with air conditioning, central vacuum and housekeeping carts. "Being the first Rapid Responder hotel in the world continues to keep us on that edge of innovation. In the current environment when safety and security are high on everyone's mind, it makes sense for the hotel to offer guests the best possible preparedness for an emergency."
Seattle-based Prepared Response, Inc. (PRI) recently installed its emergency planning system in preparation for a conference at the hotel which included Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O' Connor among the guests. The Rapid Responder system will continue to make all future guests safer and more secure.
Rapid Responder gives police, fire and other emergency responders instant access to more than 300 site-specific data points, including tactical response plans, floor plans, aerial, interior, and exterior photos, staging areas, hazardous materials locations, utility shut-offs, and evacuation routes. Just two weeks after implementation of the system at Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane, Rapid Responder proved invaluable in helping police to contain a gunman in just 10 minutes and safely evacuate more than 2,000 students in 20 minutes.
PRI digitally mapped all 15 floors of the hotel in about a week. The team worked closely with three dozen federal officials and local emergency responders to orient them with the Rapid Responder system before the conference.
"We are very excited to work with the Davenport Hotel on this project," said Jim Finnell, PRI's chief executive officer. "Even though the Rapid Responder system was designed for homeland security, we now see corporations using the system to help manage life safety, loss control and business continuity. The fact the hotel utilizes this system demonstrates their dedication to the security of their guests, staff and the hotel itself."
About the Davenport Hotel
The Davenport Hotel is Spokane's finest and only AAA Four Diamond hotel. Originally opened in 1914, the hotel closed in 1985 and demolition was considered. Local entrepreneurs Walt & Karen Worthy purchased the hotel in 2000 and gave it a complete renovation. The hotel was re-opened in 2002 and re-established as "one of America's exceptional hotels. The Davenport Hotel offers 283 guest rooms and is rated "best hotel," "best place to bring visiting relatives" and "most attractive old building" by locals. The public reception of the new Davenport Hotel has been so encouraging, that the Worthys have begun construction on the Davenport Hotel Tower across the street, to add 300 guest rooms and two dozen apartment residences with an expected opening date of Fall 2006. The Davenport Hotel is a member of Historical Hotels of America.
